Barcelona signed João Cancelo on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City in the last window.
The La Liga side don’t have an option or obligation to make the right-back’s stay permanent but he has expressed his desire to continue at the Camp Nou.
Mundo Deportivo state Barca have ‘already made the first inquiries’ to know the conditions needed to buy the Manchester City owned player.
The Portugal international had a ‘brilliant’ start to his spell at the Camp Nou and Barca are already considering the possibility of buying him next summer. His contract at the Etihad lasts until 2027 and the report states this is the problem for the Catalan club.
It’s claimed Barcelona are already ‘doing the math’ and looking to collect information from various sources to know how much it would cost them to buy the 29-year-old, although it doesn’t appear they’ve contacted City directly.
The newspaper states Manchester City’s request could be ‘more modest’ and a fee of around €25m plus bonuses would be enough to satisfy Pep Guardiola’s side to sell the defender.
Cancelo will turn 30 years of age next May and Mundo say this, coupled with Guardiola’s decision to not include him in his plans at Manchester City, are factors that favour Barcelona.
The player also wants to continue at Barca and this closes the door, at least partly, for other clubs to sign him.
