Mexican side Club América are looking into a potential deal to sign Raul Jiménez from Fulham this summer, if they lose striker Henry Martín.
That’s according to SDP Noticias, relaying information from journalist David Faitelson, who say the Fulham man is on the club’s list if they need to find a replacement for their current captain.
They explain that with interest in Martín rising, he has a million dollar offer from Rayados according to reports, América are already thinking about a Plan B and potential replacements.
The Mexican started his career with América, rising through the youth ranks to the first team before winning Liga MX titles and eventually heading to Europe.
He’s now very much in the latter part of his career and rumours about a return ‘have not stopped’ since last summer.
Those in charge at América ‘keep the doors open’ for him and the club’s sports director, Santiago Baños, even admitted to talks last year before Jiménez eventually ended up at Fulham.
“I spoke with Raúl Jiménez before the World Cup, and he has a contract for many years in England and his short-term idea is to remain in Europe and that’s it,” he is quoted as saying last year.
The idea of a move hasn’t gone away, though, and it seems if Martín were to depart, Jiménez could once again be on the list of options looked at.
