Espanyol director Ángel Gómez has given a press conference on Monday to present the club’s new signing David López. The official answered questions about many subjects, and one of them was Paul Lopez going to Tottenham Hotspur.
Gómez confirmed the talks and said: “There are negotiations for him, and the sports management is ready for his departure. He must now compete to win a place in the starting eleven (via Sport and Ara).”
Today’s reports from Spain suggested the transfer should be closed “in the coming hours”, as both clubs have sent the relevant paperwork to each other. An announcement is therefore imminently expected, but surely nobody would be too surprised if this one tried to drag one a day longer.
A move would be a loan which then turns into a permanent deal. The Spanish youngster could end up being Mauricio Pochettino’s third option for the goalkeeper position.
Hugo Lloris is currently injured, but Michel Vorm was excellent at the weekend against Liverpool and will surely be second choice unless he leaves the club before the window closes, the latter option seeming very unlikely right now.
