AMK Spor claim Fenerbahce are interested in signing Liverpool central defender Joel Matip.

The former Schalke player has seen his chances limited this season with a usually solid partnership at the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

According to AMK Spor, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc was in London last week to hold transfer talks with Matip’s agent and to help convince Liverpool to loan the defender.

However, Liverpool may not be entertained by the idea of the player leaving in the new year because of the injury to Joe Gomez earlier this week.

Matip’s presence will be much needed during the six weeks the England international has been ruled out for and he started yesterday’s game against Bournemouth.

Despite Gomez’s injury, AMK Spor report Fenerbahce are still hoping they can loan the Matip until the end of the season as the Turkish side desperately need to bring in defensive reinforcements during the next window.

Matip is under contract at Liverpool until 2020.
