Winning the Europa League last season, Eintracht Frankfurt ended up qualifying directly for the Champions League group stage.
They were handed a rather interesting draw, as they will face Tottenham, Marseille and Sporting CP in a group many see as tricky for all clubs involved.
Spurs return to the competition for the first time since the 2019-20 season, when they ended up being knocked out by RB Leipzig in the last 16, and they will be striving to do better this time under Antonio Conte.
Eintracht, down their end, will be aiming for the second spot in that group, as their director of football Markus Krösche suggested it’s Tottenham who should take first place.
Speaking to Frankfurter Rundschau, he said: “One thing is clear, Tottenham are favourites. They are one step ahead despite being one of the most underrated teams outside of England, but Lisbon and Marseille are also really good teams, who put in outstanding performances in their leagues last season.
Perhaps the German chief is just trying to add a bit of pressure on Tottenham, who will first face Marseille on Wednesday, as they welcome the Ligue 1 side to London following their 2-1 win over Fulham at the weekend.
Frankfurt, down their end, are the ones who will play host to Sporting Lisbon in what should be a close contested fixture.
