Brentford will complete a permanent €25m deal for Kevin Schade in the summer if he makes ‘a certain number of appearances’ for the club between now and the end of the season.
That’s according to Sky Sports Germany, who cover the player’s departure today and carry comments from Freiburg sporting director Jochen Saier explaining the decision to sell the player.
Schade finalised a move to Brentford yesterday, with Thomas Frank’s side signing the youngster on loan until the end of the season.
They had been chasing the player since the summer but were unable to get a deal over the line, instead waiting until this window to get their man.
The Bees announcement of the deal explained that they were likely to sign Schade on a permanent basis in the summer and we covered a report from Germany yesterday explaining the details behind that.
Sky go one further today and state that the deal will be made permanent if Schade plays a certain number of games, although the exact number isn’t made clear.
Either way, when that permanent deal is activated Schade will be Freiburg’s most expensive sale, eclipsing Caglar Söyüncü, who cost Leicester €21.1m in 2018.
That would suggest the deal is a good one for all involved and the German side certainly think so, with Saier explaining it has provided safety for the club moving forwards.
“The interest from the Premier League has accompanied us for some time,” he is quoted as saying.
“Now that the financial conditions are also right, we wanted to make this step possible for him – that’s SC Freiburg.
“The alignment at this point gives us early planning security and room to manoeuvre.”
