Arsenal’s Kai Havertz would “fit better in a Spanish club” than anywhere else, despite not playing in La Liga so far in his career.
That’s according to Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro, who believes a move to Spain would make sense for the German at some point.
Havertz is currently a key part of Mikel Arteta’s plans at the Emirates after moving from Chelsea for €75m.
He endured a difficult time early on with the Gunners but has managed to turn things around under Arteta’s leadership, now sitting on eight goals and three assists in 28 games in the Premier League and nine and three in 40 games in all competitions.
The German moved across London in the summer after a three-year spell at Chelsea, where he had failed to live up to his €80m price tag following a big move from Bayer Leverkusen, where he had been the undisputed star of the show, in September 2020.
Before joining Arsenal, he was heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, who appeared to be eyeing him as the replacement for Karim Benzema in their squad following his move to Saudi Arabia.
He instead headed across London, but Carro believes Spain is a better fit for the German star overall.
“We recommended Havertz wait, but he wanted to win titles,” he said on the player’s departure in 2020.
“We sold to Chelsea. One of the reasons was the ambition he had. (He’s) a player who, due to his football and quality, had the capacity to fit better in a Spanish club.”
