Set to leave Tottenham on a free once the season comes to a close, Jan Vertonghen is a wanted man around Europe.
We’ve covered numerous articles stating teams such as Inter, AS Roma and a couple of clubs in Spain want him, but last week saw the emergence of a new suitor: Fiorentina.
Firenze Viola suggested Rocco Commisso and co. had started following the 33-year-old just in case they were to lose a defender or two in the upcoming transfer window, and that’s now been backed up by Corriere Fiorentino.
The newspaper states the interest in Nikola Milenković and Germán Pezzella has caused Daniele Pradè, their director of sport, to look around the market and draw up a list of replacements, which is where the Tottenham defender comes in.
Corriere Fiorentino write the current situation surrounding the aforementioned pair ‘explains the surveys carried out abroad for experienced defenders such as Jan Vertonghen’.
It isn’t stated whether or not the player would be interested in a move to Florence, but with the team currently 13th in Serie A, you would think they would be below the likes of Roma and Inter in his list of preferred destinations.
Then again, it all depends on what clubs offer him, and with Fiorentina trying to put together an exciting and ambitious project under their American owner, perhaps Vertonghen could be persuaded to choose La Viola.
