If you’ve followed the Southampton transfer news on Tuesday, you’ll be aware that Romain Perraud has now left the club to return to OGC Nice.
The 25-year-old, who was bought by the Saints from Stade de Brest back in 2021 for €12m returned to the club he initially joined in 2014 from Colomiers.
He spent five years there before his move to Brest, and Nice-Matin cover his return to the south of France on Tuesday, and give a few details about the deal.
Unlike Southampton, who published on their website that the move was a ‘season-long loan’, OGC Nice make it clear on theirs that they have an option to buy.
This means they could make the move permanent during the season if they so wish, and the fee is actually affordable.
On a pure transfer in-transfer out comparison (without taking into account amortisation), Southampton will not make a profit, as Nice-Matin state the agreed fee is ‘less than €10m’.
This, for a player who has 49 appearances in England’s top-tier, complemented by two goals and three assists, as well as being only 25 years of age, is seen as a great deal and one they are very excited about.
