Giovani Lo Celso will have to return to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer after spending the last 18 months on loan at Villarreal.
Spurs initially took him on loan from Real Betis in 2019 before making his stay permanent in January 2020. He’s now received an ‘unexpected call’ from his former club, according to Estadio Deportivo.
It’s stated the La Liga side made two calls to the Tottenham player’s camp this month, which were received by his father and his most trusted advisor.
ED have made it clear the call was not to propose a sporting project or make a financial offer but to know the 27-year-old’s plans, priorities and wishes for the 2023/24 season.
Lo Celso was at Betis during the 2018/19 season, where he managed 16 goals and six assists. ED add Manuel Pellegrini’s side have also made it clear that he would have the door open to return to the club.
Meanwhile, Mundo Deporitvo say Barcelona manager Xavi Hernández likes the Argentina international ‘a lot’. He isn’t a priority target but Xavi would like to have a player of his caliber to ‘feed balls’ to Robert Lewandowski.
The South American has two years left on his deal.
Mundo say Ange Postecoglou must make a decision on whether or not to include him in his plans at Tottenham next season.
