A week ago, reports coming out of Brazil stated Flamengo have accepted Wolverhampton Wanderers’ offer for the transfer of João Gomes in the winter market.
The operation is still not closed because Lyon made an attempt to hijack the deal from the Premier League side.
Two days ago, journalist Venê Casagrande reported the French club’s bid is worth €18m and is a little bit more than the offer proposed by Wolves.
Foot Mercato now explain the Brazilian side are much more interested in the offer tabled by Lyon than the one proposed earlier by Julen Lopetegui’s side for the midfielder.
Therefore, Flamengo have ‘broken off negotiations’ with Wolves regarding a deal for the 21-year-old in the winter market, but this has not pleased the player and the situation has ‘seriously strained’ him.
Gomes doesn’t want to give in and his priority is to make a switch to Wolves.
Flamengo, on the other hand, intend to sell him to the Ligue 1 side, and, at the moment, both parties remain unwilling to change their stance.
Lyon dream more than ever to recruit Gomes and will try until the last minute to secure his services. Wolves, meanwhile, will have to wait and see how this saga plays out, and could be potentially forced to up their offer just to get their way.
