Earlier on Monday, Leggo reported AS Roma are trying to sign Brighton & Hove Albion’s Joël Veltman in the next window.
The Serie A side’s interest in the right-back is further backed by Romagiallorossa.it, who also provide more updates on this case.
Rick Karsdorp is unlikely to continue at the Italian club after this season and they have identified the Brighton defender as the target to replace him.
The Giallorossi scouts have been closely monitoring the Netherlands international in action for the Seagulls. It’s further claimed José Mourinho’s side have already taken the ‘first steps’ to secure the 31-year-old’s services in the summer.
Veltman has been a regular for Roberto De Zerbi’s side, making 27 league appearances, which includes 22 starts, this season, but his deal expires in June, and these two factors make him an attractive option in the market for other clubs.
Despite this, there’s ‘optimism’ at Roma that they can acquire the Dutchman’s signature for free in the next window.
The report doesn’t mention if Brighton will try to convince Veltman to sign a new deal or let him leave as a free agent after this season.
