On July 10th, Foot Mercato reported Marseille have taken first steps over signing Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah.
It was also said they have held positive talks with him. The Ligue 1 side have accelerated their efforts to try and secure the striker’s services this summer.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the French club are ‘moving forward’ for the Arsenal player’s arrival.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah has seen Marseille look for a replacement. They have identified a few targets, and have made progress on the track leading to the 25-year-old.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side have ‘almost reached an agreement’ with Nketiah over personal terms and only a few details are left to be sorted. Marseille will have to find an agreement with the Gunners for a player who has a deal lasting until 2027.
According to L’Equipe, Marseille president Pablo Longoria is trying to sign Nketiah on loan with a mandatory purchase option, without mentioning any figure. This allows them to delay the fee needed to buy the attacker.
Mikel Arteta mainly used the Englishman as a substitute last season, and he managed six goals and three assists from 37 games.
