Bundesliga side Werder Bremen failed in their attempt to sign Sheffield United star Sander Berge, according to reports from the German media.

Sport1 journalist Patrick Berger writes that despite an agreement the clubs had for a one year loan with a buying option, the deal ‘collapsed’.

There are not many details on why the sides failed to close the deal, but it’s said Werder Bremen were supposed to pay the salary of the Sheffield United player during the spell, and that’s of €1.8m per season.

Berger claims there was ‘obviously’ no offer of €20m for the player, since the deal was supposed to be made in other formula.

Now, with the Bundesliga side apparently out of the race, it’s still claimed that there are other clubs who are keen on signing the player ‘immediately’.

The midfielder, who has a contract with Sheffield United running until 2024, is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €16m.

Even though none of the interested sides are named, those are likely to be from the top flight, and could certainly offer the Blades a more attractive deal.
