With rumours that Harry Winks could be spending the season away from Tottenham, a number of clubs in Italy have taken an interest in the midfielder’s situation.

The 26-year-old hasn’t featured for Spurs this season, and was anything but a regular starter during the last campaign either, as Antonio Conte focused on other players for his plans.

This has left the Tottenham player in a bit of a pickle, and with a week left in the transfer window, Italy seems to be his best bet to get first-team football.

There have been reports that AS Roma were offered the player, but it appears that it’s another Serie A side who are in the lead, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian journalist states that, as things stand, Sampdoria ‘have the lead in the race’ to sign the Tottenham player.

It’s worth pointing out that should such a deal materialise, and our guess is it would be a loan, this would be the first time Winks would feature for another club, having spent his entire career at Spurs, climbing through the ranks since 2002.
