This week, reports from the Ghana media claimed that Sporting were ready to make an offer for Brighton & Hove Albion fullback Tariq Lamptey.

It was said the Lions are willing to spend between €8m and €10m on the signing, getting ready to ‘splash the cash’ on the transfer.

Now as newspaper Record covers the story, they confirm Sporting’s interest in the Brighton player, but deny any chance that this bid will take place.

The outlet writes that it’s not true the Lions would spend that much on Lamptey this summer.

Record says the fullback has been on Sporting’s list since January, but the club are actually only interested in a loan deal, and won’t make any offers for a permanent move.

We should soon get to know who’s right about that story, as the Portuguese media usually follow all the moves made by local clubs quite closely.

Sporting have been looking for a new right-back since the departure of Pedro Porro to Tottenham Hotspur in January. Their immediate solution, Hector Bellerin, didn’t work out, and the Brighton player is one of many on the list now.
