Çağlar Söyüncü turned down proposals from both Newcastle United and Liverpool, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Atlético Madrid took the centre-back on a free transfer after his contract with Leicester City expired at the end of last season.

Earlier this year, claims from the UK mentioned Newcastle and Liverpool had held talks over a deal for Çağlar Söyüncü.

Mundo now state the Premier League duo even made offers to take the 27-year-old in the summer window but he rejected their proposals to join Diego Simeone’s side.

That’s because Los Rojiblancos were working on this operation for several months and were successful in convincing the Turkey international in the end. This is mentioned in a report that focuses on the La Liga side’s business in the last window.

Mundo say their failure to strengthen certain positions has ‘left a bitter taste’ for Atlético and their supporters.

It may be a bit of a PR work from Atlético that they were successful in beating Newcastle and Liverpool to sign Söyüncü, a bit of bragging to distract from their failures during the last market.
