Having allowed Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer window, Chelsea added Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to their squad on deadline day.
Aubameyang arrived from Barcelona and the west London club had also tried signing his former teammate, Memphis Depay.
Earlier this week, Sport stated the 28-year-old had ‘negotiated’ with Chelsea in the last window, before deciding to continue at the Camp Nou. This hasn’t paid off since the forward has managed 131 minutes of action across three matches.
AS now claim the Netherlands international is ‘on pole’ to leave the Catalan club in the winter market. There is a consensus within Barca to find a way out for Depay, due to his poor displays and the possibility to make money through his sale. The forward’s deal expires in 2023.
Barcelona have decided to give the green light for his departure in January, if they were to receive an interesting offer. The newspaper states a fee of €5m and above would be well received by Xavi Hernández’s side.
Chelsea are mentioned. It’s highlighted the Blues were looking at the Dutchman in the summer, but he flatly refused to leave the Spanish club.
AS state Depay could now change his mind, likely for January, due to the possibility of playing in the Champions League with Graham Potter’s side.
Despite all of that, given it’s known Barcelona were considering a free transfer, clubs will likely try to avoid that €5m fee.
