Wolves are currently 13th in the Premier League which is disappointing for the club given they finished 7th last season. They’re 11 points off that position, which is held by Liverpool, themselves facing a huge drop on what they achieved domestically in the last campaign.
There’s no big fear over a relegation battle, with Wolves nine points clear of 17th placed Fulham, with a game in hand over the London club.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s future doesn’t appear to be in serious and immediate danger, yet given the difficult run it’s always likely questions will be asked about what happens beyond the current season.
Wolves have seen themselves linked with Gennaro Gattuso, who has Napoli fifth in Serie A, and is expected to leave the Italian club at the end of the campaign.
Wednesday’s edition of La Repubblica reports Gattuso has several offers on the table, including one from Wolves. Fiorentina and Lazio are also said to be keen on the manager.
Given the Italian is represented by Jorge Mendes there’s always a chance this is simply someone making an assumption, or alternatively the agent allowing Wolves to be brought in so it encourages other interest.
Nuno Espirito Santo was Mendes’ first client and it would be a surprise if the agent is going behind his back.
