Manchester United finished the last transfer window by completing deals for Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo on the deadline day.
The two young wingers were signed by the Red Devils after they failed to sign Jadon Sancho. The England international was their number one target, but United weren’t willing to meet Borussia Dortmund’s hefty demands to secure his services.
Sancho, who finished the last season with 20 goals and 20 assists, is yet to replicate the same form this season.
He has three goals and six assists in 14 appearances this term and is yet to find the back of the net in the league.
Despite failure to sign the 20-year-old in the last window and the dip in form, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side still retain an interest in him. That’s what SportBild are saying.
The magazine states ‘Manchester United in particular is digging’ for Sancho.
Dortmund’s desire is to retain the player in the longer run, but if they receive an offer around €100m next summer, they will have to ‘think about a sale’.
The Bundesliga side have already started plans to replace the wideman and identified Donyell Malen as a candidate to fill in for Sancho.
PSV Eindhoven manager Roger Schmidt has used the Netherlands international as a centre forward, but he can also operate on the wings. He has a contract until 2024 and is valued at €25m.
Malen is managed by Mino Raiola, and Dortmund director of football Michael Zorc shares a good relationship with the agent after Erling Haaland’s transfer.
SportBild doesn’t clarify whether the German side would still consider making an approach for Malen if Sancho isn’t sold next summer.
With regards to United, the report only states the Old Trafford club still retain an interest in Sancho, without providing further details.
