Burnley manager Vincent Kompany “has everything” to replace Roberto Martinez as Belgium manager.
That’s according to Silvio Proto and Marvin Ogunjimi, who have backed the Burnley boss for the big job in his homeland.
Belgium are on the hunt for their next manager following Martinez’s resignation earlier this week after Belgium failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the World Cup.
Their 0-0 draw with Croatia brought an end to a disappointing effort in Qatar, where Belgium’s Golden Generation had been tipped for one last chance at success.
It brought an end to Martinez’s six years in charge, with the Spaniard insisting that the decision had been made before the tournament kicked off.
Whether that is the case is up for debate, but Kompany’s name has immediately been thrown into the mix for his replacements after leading Burnley to the top of the Championship this season.
“We have Belgian people who could do the job, who know Belgium,” Proto told RTL.
“Why persist in looking for a foreigner who may -to be bringing a game system that doesn’t suit us when we have everything we need at home.
“I think Vincent Kompany has everything we need, but it’s a bit early given the little, long since coaching, but on the other hand, he knows the group very well.”
“Rather Philippe Clément or Vincent Kompany,” added Ogunjimi.
“I think that if he is champion with Burnley, the Federation can call him to offer him the job. Until then, Thierry Henry can take over the interim.”
