Having lost 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu last week, Chelsea have a mountain to climb at Stamford Bridge if they want to knock out Real Madrid in the Champions League.
This will be Frank Lampard’s latest challenge, having agreed to take the reins at his former club until the end of the season, and if he does manage it, there will be a lot of celebrating.
While many expect Real Madrid to fly out of London as victors, there is one man in Spain who has a word of caution for everyone when it comes to Chelsea, and that’s Tomas Roncero, writing for AS.
The eccentric pundit explains that, at first glance, the Blues do appear as a ‘real piece of cake’ that will be ‘devoured’ by the same team that swatted Liverpool away like they were nothing.
However, he feels Chelsea, who have very little to lose these days, are more of a ‘wounded lion’ that knows full well they go into this as inferiors.
That, with fans who will back their team regardless, could cause them to ‘make history’ at Stamford Bridge in on Tuesday night, especially if Madrid rest on their laurels.
It’s said Carlo Ancelotti has already warned his team about this, and the Italian knows both Eduardo Camavinga and Vinicus Jr. can ‘destroy’ Reece James down the right-hand side, while his experienced midfield of Toni Kroos and Luka Modrić should ‘give a new masterclass to all of European football’.
After all, it worked last time, and there’s no reason as to why that wouldn’t happen again, even if the game is away from home for the Spaniards.
