Rumoured Everton target Christophe Galtier could be available for €5m this summer, not the €8-10m that was previously thought.

That’s according to French outlet 20 Minutes, who take a look at the situation regarding the Ligue 1 winning manager at this moment in time.

They explain that Galtier announced at the end of the season that he would be leaving the club despite having a year left on his deal.

At that point, he was in advanced contact with OGC Nice and thought he would be allowed to leave for the Côte d’Azur without too much issue.

Lille’s new president, Olivier Létang, has other ideas, though. He does not intend to let Galtier, considered ‘one of the best French technicians of the moment’ to leave on the cheap.

He recently referenced Julian Nagelsmann’s move to Bayern Munich as an example of how coaches can demand big fees, and while he can’t demand what the German cost, he wants to ensure Lille are not shortchanged.

The final year of Galtier’s deal is worth around €2.5m, but Létang ‘hopes to sell him for at least double that.’

This is where things have hit the buffers with Nice, who are not prepared to pay more than €3m. Until the two sides reach an agreement, Galtier will remain Lille coach.

Now, there’s no mention of Everton anywhere, and their reported interest could very well be a negotiating tactic by Lille, but this would certainly be of interest to them.

A €5m fee is far palatable than the previous figures of €8-10m which have been quoted over the last few days.

If Galtier is a serious candidate at Goodison Park, and he seriously should be, this news should make him all the more interesting, particularly if the other candidate is Graham Potter, who would likely cost more to get out of Brighton.
