Everton’s Jonjoe Kenny was on loan at Schalke for the 2019/20 season.

The right-back featured regularly for the Bundesliga side, managing two goals and three assists in 31 league appearances.

He has seen his opportunities restricted under Carlo Ancelotti this season as the 23-year-old has been given just 79 minutes of action in the Premier League across four matches.

According to Germany’s Welt, the Toffees defender has now emerged as a target for Schalke in the winter market.

Without a win in 14 league matches, Schalke are at the bottom of the table and changing managers hasn’t really had any impact on their poor run.

They have already taken Sead Kolašinac on loan from Arsenal, but the outlet adds the Gunners man’s addition won’t be sufficient if they are to avoid relegation this season. Schalke will still need to sign a new right-back and a striker.

For the right side of the defence, Kenny has emerged as a target. Welt explain Jochen Schneider, the head of sport and communication at the Bundesliga side, is ‘trying to get’ the Everton player ‘on loan again’.

The question is whether or not Schneider and Schalke will succeed in their efforts to sign Kenny.

New manager Christian Gross is aware of the club’s economic crisis and admitted the Schalke chief is trying his best to bring in reinforcements.

“Jochen Schneider tries the impossible day and night because there are simply financial bottlenecks. I hope we can still sign one or another player who already has a personality and doesn’t have to be trained,” Gross said.
