Union Berlin president Dirk Zingler has shared his delight at getting a deal for Celtic star Josip Juranovic over the line in the January transfer window.
Juranovic was heavily linked with a move away from Ange Postecoglou’s Celtic after impressing at the World Cup in Qatar, playing a starring role for Croatia on their run to the semi-finals.
He was subsequently linked with clubs all over Europe, with sides in all of the top five leagues in Europe believed to be interested in his signature.
He eventually ended up in the Bundesliga with Union Berlin, signing in an €8.55m deal from Celtic towards the end of January.
That move came as something of a surprise given the big names that had been associated with Juranovic following his impressive performances in the Middle East.
“Three very good transfers in my opinion, because we are also happy about the signing of Jérôme Roussillon,” he told Sport BILD when asked about his side’s business.
“In addition to the squad, we will invest over €100m in our infrastructure. At the moment, the construction of our new youth performance centre is going ahead according to plan at a cost of €25m, plus a new professional wing and the conversion of our stadium “An der Alten Försterei” from 22,000 to 37,000 spectators.
“A club must be developed as a whole, otherwise the development is not sustainable. And at the same time, we have to be prepared for longer phases without success.”
