Real Betis’ Álex Moreno is edging closer towards completing a move to Aston Villa in the winter market.
On Tuesday, Estadio Deportivo reported the left-back didn’t travel with the squad to Saudi Arabia for the Copa del Rey clash against Barcelona on Thursday because Betis have reached an agreement with the Villans.
It was also explained the 29-year-old will receive permission to make the trip to England to undergo his Aston Villa medical.
Real Betis president Ángel Haro was a guest on Cadena Ser’s El Larguero. He was specifically asked about the impending sale of the fullback to the Premier League side.
Responding to that, he said: “It’s close, it’s close. It is true that we are now [hours] or days away from closing this operation, which is very good for the player and relatively good for the club as well. When these situations come, you have to face them with a significant level of consensus.”
“In the summer, for example, we had offers that were much, much lower than this. We decided to keep the squad because we understood that it was important,” he explained.
“This year we also had the commitment to balance the accounts. We’ve been losing for two years. When this offer arrives, it was already considerable. You have to do it, always with a consensus with the coach, the sports management.”
El Partidazo de COPE also had a chat with the Spanish club’s president, where he revealed when Unai Emery’s side first made a firm approach to sign Moreno.
“The offer for Álex came to us at the beginning of the year, it was an important proposal for the player and for the club. A lot happens in football, but I think it will close in hours. We would like the replacement to arrive soon, because it is an important position for us,” Haro stressed.
