Liverpool youngster Billy Koumetio is 99% likely to return from a loan spell at Austria Wien this month.
That’s according to their sporting director Manuel Ortlechner, who confirmed as much in comments about the player today.
Sky Sports Austria report that the Koumetio is currently on loan with the Austrian side until the summer, having been shipped out by Liverpool to get regular game time and continue his development.
However he was ‘never able to establish himself’ this season, ending up as the third choice centre-back and making just five appearances so far in the league.
He’s also been ‘repeatedly plagued’ by ankle injury problems that have also limited his availability and made the loan spell something of a disaster.
It seems he and Wien are now ready to call it quits, with Ortlechner confirming there are talks planned with Liverpool about him returning to Anfield.
“We are in close exchange and I have a phone call with Liverpool later because they would like to bring Koumetio back,” he told journalists during a introductory press conference for new manager Michael Wimmer.
“We still think that this is an incredibly exciting player. He can have a really exciting career, but Liverpool want to bring him back now, they have the right.
“We still have to clarify everything, but Billy Koumetio will 99% not play for Austria Wien again.”
