As Darwin Nunez’s potential move from Benfica to Liverpool continues to be covered by the Portuguese media by all possible angles, even people from Almeria are getting involved into this.

Today, Radio Renascença show Bola Branca managed to have a word with João Gonçalves, the sporting director from the Spanish club who worked on the striker’s transfer to the Eagles in 2020.

Benfica spent €24m at the time, which is a quite big amount for Portuguese clubs, and it turns out they were convinced by the official that their investment would soon be worth it, as he recalls his quotes said back then.

“I understand your fears, but believe me it’s a low-risk operation. If nothing strange happened, the player would be sold at least two or three times as much. I’m pleased that things are heading in that direction,” he said.

Gonçalves also claimed to trust that Darwin will do well at Liverpool, pointing out he has the right features to succeed at the Premier League side.

“He won’t have any adaptation problem.”

“Darwin is humble, has talent, a winner’s mentality and a great capacity for work.”

According to the latest reports from the Portuguese media, Darwin’s move to the Reds is done, as he’s set to sign a five-year contract with the club.
