If you’ve been following the transfer action on Wednesday closely, you’ll know that Real Madrid’s Danilo, who was meant to be heading to Chelsea, now seems to be heading to Manchester City instead.
Reports of a fee between €30-35m being agreed between the Citizens and the Champions League champions got the ball rolling, and now the player is expected to sign for Pep Guardiola’s side very soon.
The Spanish newspaper, other than claiming the agreement between player and club is ‘total’, state that the past few hours have been crucial in shaping Danilo’s future, and it was Chelsea’s ‘passiveness’ in negotiations that allowed their rivals to sneak in.
Pep Guardiola’s side are said to have entered talks with a strong bid, and the Spanish manager was quick to convince the player, reassuring him that the signing of Kyle Walker would not impede his playing time, as his versatility (being able to play down both sides as well as in midfield) will play in his favour.
Much like Alvaro Morata’s apparent transfer to Chelsea, Zinedine Zidane wasn’t planning on losing his backup right-back, but the Frenchman knows his defender wants to play regularly, especially with the World Cup coming up next year.
All in all, Marca seem pretty convinced Danilo will be a Manchester City player soon.
