Cesc Fabregas has found it difficult under Antonio Conte to get regular playing time. The Spaniard has managed just 32 minutes of league football, but scored a couple of goals against Leicester City midweek in the League Cup.
Reports in the Spanish media suggested during the summer that Fabregas was offered to Real Madrid, but the former Barcelona star has dismissed those reports in an interview with Spanish radio outlet Cadena Cope.
He said: “I didn’t raise leaving Chelsea and going to Madrid. They could have called or not, but it’s not what I considered.”
Fabregas also seems to be determined to give his best on the pitch, and insists he’d have left the club if he thought he wasn’t good enough for Chelsea.
He added: “In the end, when you do not play you have no choice and it hurts a lot. If I thought I’m not good enough to play for Chelsea, I’d have moved.”
The Spanish media have sporadically linked Fabregas with a transfer to Madrid, because it’s such a big story given his Barcelona past.
In mid August, Catalan newspaper Sport reported that Fabregas’ entourage had offered the player to Real Madrid, in a move that could have seen him achieve ‘revenge’ having gone through a frustrating return period at Barcelona.
At the end of August, El Cofidencial said Chelsea themselves had offered Fabregas to Real Madrid.
Antonio Conte was said to be keen on Alvaro Morata (now confirmed by the player himself), and when Madrid suggested Eden Hazard could be part of a deal, Chelsea were said to have offered Fabregas instead.
