Even with the signing of Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly, Chelsea are still looking for a new centre-back.
Names such as Josko Gvardiol have appeared here and there, but there will be other opportunities being looked at, such as Milan Skriniar at Inter.
The Slovakian is currently set to enter the final six months of his contract with the Serie A side in January, which would allow him to speak to Chelsea about a free transfer if he so wished, unless he renews.
This is something Inter are keen to get him to do, as he is such an important part of their team, but at 27 years of age, this could also be a great time for him to try something new, having played in Italy since 2016 after his transfer to Sampdoria from MSK Zilina.
Talks are ongoing between club and player to put pen to paper on a new long-term deal, but financial limits mean the Italian club won’t be able to offer as much was other clubs.
This is what Calciomercato.it discuss on Monday, explaining that Inter’s offer ‘should be €6m/season’, described as ‘much lower’ than what the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea will put on the table.
In fact, the Blues and their French counterparts are reportedly ‘willing to put €8m per season on the plate’.
The issue Skriniar faces, however, in the eyes of Calciomercato.it, is that he is currently such an important player for Inter, and that might not be the case at Chelsea or Paris Saint-Germain, who have a lot more competition.
The likes of recent signing Fofana and Koulibaly are examples of that, while he would have to contend with Marquinhos, Presnel Kimpembe and even Sergio Ramos in Paris.
