Chelsea remain ‘an option’ for Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard this summer, although a departure is not a complete certainty at this point.
That’s according to BILD, who cover the Frenchman today after he was summoned for a meeting with Bayern chief Hasan Salihamidzic.
The newspaper explains how they caught the defender heading for a meeting with Salihamidzic today, with their information being that he had been invited to share a coffee with the Bosnian.
That was likely to start a discussion about his future, with Pavard having decided ‘he wanted to leave’ in the January transfer window and that a ‘new challenge abroad’ appeals to him. Bayern later rejected an offer from Inter Milan.
The potential of him signing a new contract has increased in recent weeks as he’s featured more under Thomas Tuchel and Salihamidzic has now tried very hard to create a ‘great atmosphere’ with the player, hence the latest meeting.
However, Pavard is ‘still flirting with a change’ and Chelsea remain an option after showing an interest for the best part of a year.
A more likely move is to Barcelona, though, because his advisor Pini Zahavi is heavily connected to the Catalan club and already helped Robert Lewandowski to make the same move last summer.
That would therefore put them ahead of Chelsea if a transfer becomes a reality, although at this moment in time Bayern are working to ensure that does not happen.
