Jorrel Hato spent seven years at Ajax before leaving them for Chelsea in the summer window.
The 19-year-old initially joined the Dutch club’s academy in 2018 and was promoted to their first team in 2023. Despite his young age he played 111 games for Ajax, operating as a centre-back and a left-back. His development convinced Chelsea to bet on him.
Enzo Maresca has utilised him as a left-back at Chelsea and he played 67 minutes from two league games so far. He started in their EFL Cup win over Lincoln City earlier this week.
Soccernews have a report on the Chelsea player and their title states: ‘Hato makes lightning transfer to Eredivisie’.
Within the report, it’s explained there are concerns over the defender’s performances for the Club World Cup winners. This may impact his chances of featuring regularly for the Blues, also because Marc Cucurella has cemented his place.
Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman recently said he’s called Hato to inform him he won’t be picked for the next fixtures. His limited role at Chelsea could see him miss out on representing Oranje at the 2026 World Cup.
To avoid this, it’s claimed a loan move to the Eredivisie in January is being analysed so he can ‘work on himself and return [to Chelsea] as a player who is actually ready for the real thing…’
Although there’s a mention of a ‘lightning transfer’ in the title, it isn’t concretely backed up within the report.
