On January 30th Germany’s SportBild brightened up the end of the transfer window by claiming Chelsea had approached Schalke to sign Sead Kolasinac. SportBild are pretty good on German transfers, and it didn’t seem like simply speculation, with Kolasinac’s contract ending this summer.
Chelsea are said to have offered the player a package worth more than €6m a year, whereas Schalke are only offering €4.5m. Kolasinac came through the ranks at Schalke and feels a connection to the club so a late renewal can’t be ruled out. The idea of the 23 year old signing an extension for a year or two seems a conceivable one.
Kolasinac would be a great addition for Conte, he’s best known as a left back but is growing into a good left winger. Any system would suit Kolasinac, whether he be used at left back, left wing back, or further forward. Should it be needed, he can also play in central defence.
Conte currently has Marcos Alonso performing such a role, but the Italian is keen on constantly improving the quality in his squad, as demonstrated at Juventus.
