César Azpilicueta has toned down the rumours which linked him to departure from Chelsea this summer. In an interview with El Confidencial, he states he’s happy at the club and isn’t thinking of moving so soon.
When asked if he’s staying at Stamford Bridge for the next season, Azpilicueta said: “For now, yes. I know there are rumours, but for now I’m focused on the national team and Chelsea.”
The player was questioned about Barcelona’s interest in replacing Dani Alves with him: “It’s summer and there are rumours, it’s normal. But I’m not thinking about it right now.”
The 26-year-old also talked about a move to Bilbao, which was covered widely in the Spanish press during the past week: “We know how restricted the Athletic market is. They remain true to their philosophy and since childhood I have always lived it, because I’ve had mates who have gone to Bilbao to play.
“I’ve been out of Spain for six years, four at Chelsea, and I am enjoying football. You never know what can happen in the future, but it’s good to have teams interested in you, because it means you’re doing well. But I don’t give much importance.”
During the interview, Azpilicueta also said that José Mourinho is a good person and helped him a lot in his career. El Confidencial didn’t ask him about a possible move to Manchester United, but the player was asked if he took part in a boycott during the manager’s last weeks at Chelsea, which he obviously denied.
