The transfer of Ruben Loftus-Cheek from Chelsea to AC Milan is today a subject in Italian newspaper Tuttosport.
The reason for that is an interview the outlet features with Carlo Cudicini, who works with the Blues by being responsible for the players who are loaned by the club.
In quotes relayed by MilanPress, the former goalkeeper claimed that Loftus-Cheek made the right decision when leaving Chelsea for Milan, as the Rossoneri proved to be the best destination for him.
“Milan has been his medicine. He has found confidence, he plays in a role he loves. He feels more responsibility and reacts in the right way. In the Rossoneri he is a dragger. For sure he is one of the team’s best men. It’s never easy for English players who go abroad to impose themselves. History teaches us that, there aren’t many of them,” said Cudicini.
“I always had a lot of faith that his combination of physicality and technique would take him far. His weakness was that he didn’t score many goals, that he didn’t put his mark on games with goals and assists, despite playing in areas of the pitch where this was required. This year he has already scored five goals and provided assists, the numbers are coming in, so he can make a difference’.”
Loftus-Cheek was a product of Chelsea’s youth ranks and spent about a decade belonging to the club, despite his loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham.
He left the Blues’ first team with 13 goals and 18 assists in 155 appearances.
It was last season that Milan decided to buy him, and got to a deal to sign him for €18.4m.
The midfielder soon became an important piece at the club, having 25 appearances for them this season, with five goals and two assists. His contract there runs until 2027, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a renewal showing up soon as a reward.
