Chelsea have reportedly sent a representative to try to sign Thiago Maia from Santos.
According to Jorge Nicola’s blog on Yahoo, Kia Joorabchian is in Brazil and will ask the player if he has the intention to join the Blues.
If the answer is yes, then he will present to Santos a R$66m (£15.3m) offer.
Thiago has already rejected several offers from Europe and shows no intention to leave Brazil now. The journalist says that the club doesn’t want to sell him at the moment.
The youngster is very good defensive midfielder, with decent technique, whose physical prowess is quite impressive for a 19-year-old.
He’s one of the few Brazilian midfielders who can do a properly box-to-box job, so it’s no wonder why he’s expected to be a starter for the Brazilian Olympic Team, alongside his Santos teammates Zeca and Gabigol.
The Olympics are set to provide a platform for several young Brazilians to show their talents to a wider audience.
