It really seems like Chelsea will end up loaning Andrey Santos back to Vasco da Gama.
The player was close to joining Palmeiras, but as widely reported in Brazil in the past few hours, the Verdão had problems in finalising the deal with Chelsea for the move.
Journalist Jorge Nicola now features more details on those talks, claiming that besides all the demands from Chelsea, which included the possibility of calling him back in the summer and his participation in the U-20 World Cup, the London side also wanted a financial compensation for the loan.
Palmeiras then ruled out the signing, as they could be paying to have a player until July, with him leaving with the national team for a month.
“Under these conditions, it makes no sense for Palmeiras to proceed with the operation,” a source from Palmeiras told Nicola.
“The tendency is to close a deal with Vasco. It’d be very difficult for another club to accept Andrey playing in the World Cup and still with the clause that releases him in June if the work visa comes out.”
A report from O Globo now claims that Flamengo also made an approach to know the conditions, but they didn’t like Chelsea’s demands, and backed off, leaving the path clear for Vasco to make the signing.
