Chelsea’s Carney Chukwuemeka has ended up on Barcelona’s transfer radar, according to Saturday’s edition of Sport.
The midfielder has seen his game time limited since joining Chelsea in 2022 and he was limited to 254 minutes from 12 games last season.
Despite his situation at Chelsea, Barcelona like the 20-year-old’s profile. He’s ‘very well placed’ on their agenda, if the La Liga side decide to sign a new midfielder this summer.
It’s further claimed Barcelona have held talks with both the Blues and his agent in recent weeks, to explore a potential deal.
Chelsea intend to retain him, but the former Aston Villa man is willing to join Barca since he feels that he’ll have a limited role under Enzo Maresca. At this moment in time, the Blaugrana have kept the deal for Chukwuemeka on ‘standby’.
Barcelona youngsters Marc Casadó and Marc Bernal have impressed Hansi Flick during the pre-season, which is why the manager has stopped the arrival of a new midfielder.
The Chelsea man is still waiting for Barca to make an approach. This is unlikely to happen, but Sport suggests they could be forced to act towards the end of the window if there are developments [injuries, exits] around their existing midfielders.
