Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen has drawn interest from Bayern Munich, the German media says.
Sky Deutschland journalist Florian Plettenberg claims on X that the 22-year-old is on a list the Bundesliga giants have for the summer.
Bayern Munich are looking for a potential replacement for Alphonso Davies, and Maatsen is one of the options. It’s made clear that there’s ‘nothing concrete or hot’ at this stage.
The Chelsea player was recently sent to Borussia Dortmund, where he’s on a loan spell running until the end of the season. So far, he’s made 12 appearances there, and has even contributed one goal and two assists.
It seems his appearances in German football drew Bayern Munich’s eyes. As they watch some left-backs, they’re also considering the likes of Theo Hernandez and Miguel Gutiérrez.
Plettenberg points out that Maatsen has a £35m release clause at Chelsea, and it remains to be seen whether Bayern would buy him for that much or try to negotiate a smaller price. At this point, he’s valued by Transfermrarkt at €20m, and could convince Bayern to make a big investment if he continues to impress in the Bundesliga.
Going from being surplus to requirements at Chelsea to being wanted by Bayern Munich is quite the turnaround in fortunes.
