Having been unable to save Southampton from the drop, Roméo Lavia now needs to find himself a new club for next season.
The young Belgian will not want to play in the Championship, and with his talent, many teams, including Chelsea, are sniffing around.
In fact, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the Blues are the favourites to get him from Southampton after making the first move.
Taking to Twitter, he state that Joe Shields, who was the one who convinced the Saints to acquire Lavia in the first place, ‘has been pushing’ Chelsea to ‘start talks between clubs’.
The ‘unofficial position’ from Mauricio Pochettino has been to wait for the sale of Mateo Kovacic before making a move for another midfielder, but that could change as Liverpool are also ‘still in the race’ to get the talented midfielder.
Chelsea are now seen as the ‘most probable destination’ for the 20-year-old, although we will have to ‘wait and see’, as Tavolieri makes it clear nothing is imminent just yet.
The 19-year-old was a key member of Southampton’s squad during the past season, making 34 appearances in all competitions, scoring one goal and providing one assist.
