It seems Chelsea’s chase for AC Milan star Rafael Leão may be over.
For months, the Rossoneri have been trying to protect the player with a new contract, and it’s now said they finally managed to do it.
French journalist Ignazio Genuardi writes that despite ‘interest from European heavyweights’, Leão was convinced to stay at Milan, signing a deal until 2028.
It’s claimed that the 23-year-old ‘notably rejected’ attempts from Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain. The reporter says that even though ‘there were discussions’, the player ended up choosing to stay in Serie A.
Now in case any interested club would still like to force that signing, Genuardi claims Leão is set to have a release clause worth €170m.
Chelsea have been linked to the Portuguese star since the start of the season, often claimed to be in the front row for his signing.
Milan, however, had been working hard to keep their biggest star, and managed to do that well. According to Genuardi, the Rossoneri will be paying the player €7m per season, plus bonuses, and a signing prize worth another €2m.
