At this point, everything points towards Romelu Lukaku heading back to Chelsea in the summer unless AS Roma find €43m down the back of their sofa.
That’s the figure the Blues need to ensure the striker doesn’t count as a loss for them, but few are likely to want to pay that, even if he has scored 18 goals for the Serie A side on loan this season.
Corriere dello Sport cover the Chelsea loanee’s situation, and while some have claimed he would be happy to go back to Anderlecht if they qualified for the Champions League, the reality is different.
The newspaper reveal that, according to sources close to the Belgium international, his ‘priority’ would be to stay in Rome.
That’s because the Chelsea player ‘loves the city’, as well as the weather there, on top of the environment he has found both personally and professionally.
However, that entirely depends on AS Roma, as the €43m fee required to get him appears out of reach for the time being.
If they do decide to pay it, they would also need the Chelsea man to lower his wage demands, although if he is that determined to get a transfer there this summer, that shouldn’t be too much of an ask.
