Normally, when Tiemoué Bakayoko is sent on loan to Italy, there’s a lot to say about him, whether it be his form or desires to move away from Chelsea permanently.

This time, however, it’s all been fairly quiet, and there might be a reason for that.

Loaned by the Serie A club until 2023, there is no rush to assess the Blues man this season, but he still needs to perform, which hasn’t really been the case.

Stefano Pioli has used him extremely sporadically, starting him just three times in the league, and that’s a bit of an issue when Franck Kessie and Ismael Bennacer are also underperforming.

Sandro Tonali appears to be the only certainty in the midfield these days, but the Chelsea loanee is ‘the least convincing’ of the lot, as per Gazzetta dello Sport.

Yes, he was injured in the early stages of the campaign, but now it goes beyond that, as he ‘lacks confidence with the movements and balances of the game system’, with his first time at Milan, under Gennaro Gattuso, ‘probably serving him little’ as he was playing in a 4-3-3, which Pioli rarely uses.

It’s nothing Chelsea need to worry about just yet, but it’s worth keeping in mind as Milan will eventually have to decide whether or not they want to strive towards meeting the clauses to turn the option to buy into a permanent one.
