As the days count down for the summer transfer window to slam shut, Victor Osimhen remains a Napoli player, which appears to be a frustrating situation for all involved.
A swap deal with Chelsea involving Romelu Lukaku didn’t take off but attempts are still being made to make sure that the Belgian ends up under Antonio Conte and Osimhen somehow becomes part of the move.
Gazzetta dello Sport report today that Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna has now understood that to sign Lukaku, the Partenopei will have to somehow include Osimhen in the deal with Chelsea.
The deal on offer for Lukaku from Napoli is low and that is why Chelsea are trying to make sure Osimhen is convinced about the move, to make things easier.
Club legends Didier Drogba and John Obi Mikel are in ‘close contact’ with Osimhen, as they try to push him to a move to Stamford Bridge. They are, it is reported, convincing the Nigerian that joining Chelsea would be a positive move for his career.
It isn’t known if these efforts will come off or not, because Osimhen’s wage demands aren’t in line with what Chelsea can offer.
That is why the entire situation has been described as ‘complex’.
