Just days ago, Chelsea had been heavily linked to Flamengo youngster Matheus França.
It was many times reported that the Blues were battling Crystal Palace for the signing, and at one stage, it was even claimed the Stamford Bridge side had made an official offer for the transfer.
It turns out that as journalist Venê Casagrande now talks about the fight for França, he claims that Chelsea have actually given up on their pursuit.
On YouTube, it’s claimed that the Blues actually never made an offer, and didn’t like to see the many stories in the Brazilian media about their interest.
With reports making it look like an ‘auction’ for the signing, Chelsea got disappointed with the leak.
It’s said the Blues had indeed shown interest and even planned to have a videoconference with the player. With the recent events, they’ve withdrawn from the fight.
The reports about the race for Matheus França had been claiming that Flamengo demanded €25m for the transfer, and both Chelsea and Crystal Palace were expected to reach that amount.
On Wednesday, it was reported that the Eagles offered a package of €40m and that was accepted by the Brazilian club. That news is still to get confirmed by major outlets.
