Following all the reports we’ve been covering about the future of Sporting midfielder Manuel Ugarte, it’s time to see Chelsea joining the race for his signing.
It’s Jornal de Notícias who today report that the Blues are the latest side to become interested in the 22-year-old.
The newspaper writes that Chelsea have been ‘observing’ the player’s performances and are ‘attentive’ to him.
Since there’s not much certainty about the options the Blues will have in midfield next season, Ugarte is said to be their idea for reinforcement in that sector.
Jornal de Notícias point out he’s protected by a €60m release clause, without mentioning how much Sporting would demand for his transfer. Judging by recent reports we’ve seen on the player, that’s exactly how much it will take to sign him this summer.
There’s been a lot of noise about Ugarte in Portugal, because besides Chelsea, the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United are said to be interested in him as well.
This week, the player’s agent claimed he’s ‘sure’ his client will be leaving the club this summer, and his situation should be sorted out in 15 days.
