Chelsea held a meeting yesterday with representatives of Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili about a potential move in the summer.
That’s according to COPE, who say the Blues are currently leading the race for the 22-year-old Valencia star.
They explain that the Georgian goalkeeper’s ‘meteoric rise’ has not gone unnoticed around Europe, with several big sides willing to fish in Valencia’s troubled waters for him.
They’re aware that Valencia need to sell to ease their financial worries and Mamardashvili’s performances have made him a potential target.
He’s established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga this season and Chelsea have taken notice of that fact and ‘already made moves’ for him.
According to their information his agents met with Chelsea yesterday before then taking in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues are ‘very interested’ in the Valencia goalkeeper and ready to sign him as soon as the summer transfer window opens.
They’ve taken the lead over Manchester United and Tottenham on that front, although the player’s €100m release clause could prove troublesome. That’s part of his current contract, which he signed in September last year and runs until 2027.
Valencia would likely want that to be matched but they are facing a summer window in which they will again ‘be forced to sell’ and thus they need to ‘negotiate a possible exit’ for the Georgian goalkeeper.
At the moment no club has approached the club to express an interest or make an offer for Mamardashvili but Chelsea are the ones to ‘closest’ to acquiring him.
