Once again, Chelsea find themselves heading towards the back end of a transfer window with a need to offload some of their dead weight.
However, it appears they will manage to get most of it cleared, even if temporarily, with Tiemoué Bakayoko heading to Milan and Davide Zappacosta almost certainly returning to his former club, Atalanta.
That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who point out that while a loan to Fiorentina was nearly completely sorted for the full-back, Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have come in and ‘entered strongly’ in the race.
What appears to have turned the tide is the offer put on the table by Atalanta, as the newspaper explain Chelsea were offered the chance of getting rid of Zappacosta for good.
How much isn’t said, but Fiorentina’s offer was that of a paid loan at €1m with a right to buy him at a later date for €10m.
Our guess is that Atalanta’s bid will be a similar figure, or even a bit less, but if it gives Chelsea the opportunity to never have to deal with the right-back again, we’re pretty sure they’ll jump at it.
