Two days ago, Calciomercato stated Chelsea are the first and most logical solution for Victor Osimhen if he were to decide to leave Napoli in January.
On Thursday, Gazzetta dello Sport reported the striker’s qualities would be ‘more than useful’ for Mauricio Pochettino at Chelsea.
The 24-year-old’s relationship with Napoli has strained after they posted insulting and likely racist videos of him on TikTok. On Thursday, the Serie A winners insisted it was never their intention to offend or make fun of their star but didn’t issue an apology.
These factors have made it even more difficult for Rudi Garcia’s side to tie Osimhen to a new deal, giving encouragement to the Blues and others who have shown interest in him.
Sport Mediaset state Chelsea and a club from Saudi Arabia ‘continue to push’ to sign the Nigeria international but a deal is unlikely to take shape in January.
That’s because ‘there are certainties’ of Osimhen finishing the season at Napoli and a change could only take place next summer. This would give his employer time to find a solution, which hasn’t happened so far.
Taking this into account, Pochettino’s side would have to be convincing if they wish to sign the player in January.
Osimhen was instrumental in helping Napoli win the title last season, managing 26 goals and five assists from 32 league games. He has four goals from six games this season.
